When designing the ideal kitchen cabinets we will usually not consider the type of hardware that they need in order to function properly. The knobs, handles, and moldings are all an intricate part of any cabinet and help them to function as well as to add a decorative look for them.
Knobs And Handles
The knobs and the handles are an important part to any kitchen cabinet. It is possible to design a kitchen cabinet that does not require the use of either of these. However, many of us prefer to have a handle or knob that we can use to make opening the door easy. These can be long or short and made with various materials.
The most common that we use are the metal or stainless steel types. Most of us will recognize them by their most basic form. Unfortunately this form is often boring and we prefer to shy away from it. You want to choose something that will match the length or width of your cabinet, is easy to grab onto, and will match the look of the kitchen cabinet.
For the kitchen drawers you will want to use the longer handles that expand across the width to make it easy to open and close. When it comes to the cabinets you want to make them slightly smaller and rounded off. It is possible to find many cabinet knobs that are intricate and great to use for the Victorian kitchen cabinets.
Molding
Molding is another important part of the kitchen cabinet – but one we do not often think about. This is used on the cabinets that are all the way on the end and on the top. It helps to define a smooth transition between the ending of the kitchen cabinets that is not so boring or even tacky.
The type of molding that you use should be made with the same materials as the cabinets and have the same color. However. It is up to you to decide the shape, size, and style that they should have. It is best to do something slightly larger then the width of the cabinet so that it is more defined – but not too dramatic.
The only time you can make the molding larger is when you are finishing off the very top cabinets. The molding should run across the very top of them and in the center should arch higher into the air with a drop off on either side. The shape this center piece takes is up to you.
